Agrivoltaics: Agricultural & Environmental Benefits

By combining solar and agriculture on the same land, agrivoltaic projects maximize both economic and environmental benefits. They generate clean, renewable energy while maintaining food production, protecting crops and valuable agricultural soil, and preserving rural landscapes.


Our Ring Road Agrivoltaics Project, seen below during construction, is one example of the multiple benefits provided. Elevated solar arrays preserve cranberry cultivation by allowing farming operations to continue in the bogs below. The panels provide partial shade that reduces water loss and heat stress for the cranberries' habitat, increasing crop yield and long-term stability for the sensitive bog microclimate.


For ground-based crops and grazing land, solar panels reduce soil erosion while continued agricultural use maintains healthy soil ecosystems. Meanwhile, the vegetation beneath panels helps keep the solar equipment cooler, which improved energy efficiency.


For our cranberry projects, we minimized vehicle access during construction, used durable ground mats to prevent compaction, and trained our installation crews to avoid disrupting the delicate bog ecosystem. These precautions ensured we protected the micro-environment during construction. Our careful approach paid off; now the cranberry harvests are better protected from wind, evaporation, and extreme weather by the panels that shelter them.
